Architecture created after a dance. Two parallel corridors, one as a passage through several rooms—the red, the green, the blue and the yellow—were built to allow the camera to follow 4 girls in their dance, rolling like a colorful pile one over another in the narrow rainbow tunnel. Remember how love used to travel between black hole realms in Nolan’s Interstellar (2014)? In Will’s house electricity turns on colorful light bulbs marking analogical non-material presence in both our and the Upside Down world. It makes me think of the special castle that occupies different places at different locations serving as architectural bridge between them. Where was it from again? #howlsmovingcastle @netflix @strangerthingstv #strangerthings
It is all about moving from public to private. House floor plan in this movie is only the transition between them. You get the flow: enter the house (opposite the stair), enter the living, then the dining, then you are in the kitchen. It’s like in Haneke’s AMOUR where the single private bedroom is even beyond the kitchen. Except in this case the single thing is a garden yard, which symbolizes a whole complete world — sacred intimate space where most private conversions and events take place. Good luck on the Oscars! @fencesmovie #fences #theacademy #movieflyer
Several hours of pencil fight with the shots of the outside corridor surrounding the apartment. That flooded corridor in George’s bad dream is too long. Truth is the apartment is fictional and especially built for the film. Clue: looked from the inside, main facade windows are not lined in rhythmic order, which is weird for this type of classic Paris architecture (openings are arrayed in a row just for the drawing). Watercolor isometric drawing of apartment in Haneke's AMOUR. #michaelhaneke #amour
Architectural floor plan and cross section are actually the only way spectators realize how tremendously small Jack’s room and respectfully his world are. Surprisingly he has another inner space, even smaller—a blue peeping closet much like Isabella Rossellini’s one in Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986). It seems like it is the shed that is an Oscar nominee for Best Motion Picture of 2015, and not the movie title itself. Congratulations to #ROOMthemovie on #Oscars2016 📺
